Questions and answers
What is Wordvore?
Wordvore is a word guessing game for Android and iPhone. You guess a secret word, and every guess is ranked by how close it is to the answer in meaning. It plays in English and in Turkish, where it is called Kelimecil.
How is the rank worked out?
Each word is compared with the secret word using word vectors learned from large collections of text. Words used in similar contexts come out closer: “town” is close to “village”, “ocean” is far from it. Rank 1 is the secret word, rank 2 the closest word to it, and so on.
Is it free?
Yes. Wordvore is free to download and play. It shows ads between some levels and offers optional purchases: booster packs, a star pack and Remove ads.
When can I download it?
Wordvore is in a closed test on Android right now and comes to Google Play and the App Store soon. You can join the Android beta today: see “Join the Android beta” below.
What if I get stuck?
Open the easier clue, see how many letters the word has, reveal a letter, or use Guess to get a word close to the answer. Playing Color Slide wins more boosters.
Does it understand plurals and Turkish suffixes?
Yes. A plural like “books” counts as “book”, and in Turkish an inflected word like “kitapları” counts as “kitap”. You can also type Turkish words without Turkish letters: “cocuk” is read as “çocuk”.
Do I need an account or the internet?
No account is needed: you start playing at once. You do need an internet connection, because the ranks are worked out on our server. Signing in with Google or Apple is optional and keeps your progress on a new phone.
Who is it for?
Anyone aged 13 and over who likes word games, puzzles and finding how words connect. There is no timer, so it suits a two-minute break as well as a long evening.
